This is Grandma's shortbread recipe. I made this recently for a party and it was an absolute favorite. Grandma made these cookies for Christmas every year shaped as stars and diamonds.
Mary's Shortbread
2 c. soft butter
1 c. brown sugar - beat well
yolk of 1 egg, add beat
5 cups all purpose flour
add a little at a time until like putty turn out onto large sheet of plastic wrap press together until form a ball take about ¼ of the ball to roll out roll out dough to 1/3 inch cut into shapes prick with fork
bake 325 degrees until golden brown
about 12-15 minutes depending on thickness
